Marbella Achievers Toastmasters Public Speaking Club

Have fun, meet new people and practise the art of public speaking! Toastmasters is the world’s biggest public speaking organisation, with over 350.000 members in 150 countries. “The Achievers” Marbella meet every week for prepared speeches, improvisations, workshops and public speaking exercises in a relaxed and fun setting.

How does it work?
Every meeting is led by a “Toastmaster of the day”, who sets the theme of the meeting and introduces all other members. There will usually be 2 prepared speeches. These speeches are then evaluated by individual “Evaluators”, as well as in writing by the whole audience, giving speakers feedback on what they did well, and how they could improve. The topics of the speeches are freely chosen by the speakers and we have an immense variety of speech topics, they can be informative, inspirational, entertaining, or anything in-between!
In addition, there are various roles, designed to improve specific skills: an Ah Counter to count all the filler words, a Body Language evaluator giving feedback on movement and use of stage, a Grammarian reporting on use of language, and a Timer making sure speeches stay within given time limits. We also practise the art of reciting poetry, and sometimes jokes or stand-up comedy. Members can also practise specific presentations, e.g. business presentations, to rehearse and get feedback from the audience.
One of the highlights always is “Table Topics”, or improvised speeches. Members are called up to speak on a random topic and only have a few seconds to think before delivering a 1–2-minute impromptu speech. The topics, again, can be anything from serious to entertaining, but we like ours to be fun and creative!
First-time visitors are welcome to participate in the Table Topics improvisations, but there is absolutely no obligation to speak during your first session, you can just sit back, relax and enjoy.
Meetings generally last approx. 90 minutes. Afterwards, we go to a nearby bar for a drink and snack.

How much does it cost?
The first few sessions are free. Once you join, it costs on average just 3€ per meeting.

Are there other clubs?
Yes! Once you join, you can visit Toastmasters clubs in other cities in Spain, in Portugal, in Morocco, all over Europe, in Asia, and of course in the USA where it all started over 100 years ago. You can also join conferences, participate in speech contests, and even try to win the World Championship of Public Speaking!
