Pride Fort Lauderdale is the oldest Pride celebration in the state of Florida. Born in 1977 out of protest in response to Anita Bryant’s "Save Our Children" campaign that portrayed gays as child molesters and successfully moved to repeal of the anti-discrimination ordinance in Miami.
2019, Pride Fort Lauderdale presented the first parade in city history on scenic State Route A1A (renamed Gay1A) along the beach, with nearly 35,000 spectators.
Pride is an opportunity to take a stand against oppression and celebrate the strength and resolve of the LGBT community. In Pride, both celebration and protest are alive and evident, in South Florida. Pride Fort Lauderdale remains a large Pride Festival in the state of Florida with thousands of attendees annually.
