Lindsay has been teaching how to make personal-care products naturally since 2013, has worked with over 800 students, made a guest appearance on A&E's Storage Wars and has all 5-star reviews. Check them out on her website: http://www.soapmakingclassesandmore.com/reviews.
This class is for those completely new to cold process soap making and for those who have dabbled with cold process soap making and would like to go back to the basics and have more of an educational experience. Also, the added benefit of this class is that you will be able to work with colorants and water substitutes like goat's milk and beer to make your soap even better! This is Lindsay's most popular class.
For up to 4 per class: The small-group setting allows for a more personal experience, so you can get the most out of the class.
Class minimum is just 1 person. If this date doesn't work for you, Lindsay does set up private classes for the same price and offers online classes as well.
$140/person

We will cover, using Lindsay's detailed, informational handouts:
- the science of soap making, saponification, and important soap terms like superfatting and curing
- why various fats (oils & butters) and lye are used to create soap
- what fats are best to work with and their various soap qualities
- how to safely work with lye (it's about respect, not fear!)
- how to design & customize your own recipes to achieve specific soap qualities and for various skin types, using a very detailed online soap calculator*
- how to work with basic additives: essential/fragrance oils, honey, exfoliants and a bar hardener (
- how to work with colorants and water substitutes like goat's milk, aloe vera, coffee, beer, etc.
- what materials and equipment are needed for soap making, including safety equipment
- what to do once your soap is fully saponified and how to test the pH
- basic troubleshooting for the most common soap making mishaps
- recommended online suppliers for small & bulk quantities
Then, you'll choose 2 soap recipes that work for your skin type & preferences and make 2 batches (8 oz each or 16 oz total; 4-6 bars total, depending on the mold), with Lindsay as your guide, and take home your creations + the reusable mold.
After class, Lindsay will email you:
- electronic copies of the class handouts + your soap batch recipes + additional recipes to try at home
- links to her private videos of her making cold process soap for you to refer back to, so that you have additional help at home for when you are ready to make soap yourself (You can watch the videos as much as you want & even follow along as you are making the products at home)
- many helpful links, depending on your needs (e.g. FDA labeling requirements for a business)
*Formulating a balanced recipe is the most important & often hardest part of soap making, so my goal is for you to go home feeling very capable & comfortable with the intricacies of the soap calculator. Learning how to customize & build your own recipes is a unique feature of my classes; you will not find this in most other classes.
This class is held right in Lindsay's kitchen and you will receive the address once you sign up. You don't need to bring anything to the class, unless there is a particular ingredient you'd like to work with, but Lindsay does provide everything needed with some options to choose from.
Her goals are for you to have fun learning something new & making your soap in a relaxed, personal environment, and that you leave the class with a solid, educational foundation that you can build upon.
I hope to meet you soon! Please contact Lindsay with any questions!
