Herndon B/BB Wallyball $10

Wallyball is back in Herndon on Tuesdays and Thursdays for recreational play. This meetup is open to all levels of play.

Pay at the front $8 and $2 dollars to host to cover court fees.

Tuesdays we welcome new players to Wallyball and/or Volleyball and will work on the basics and foundations with those attendees on one court for the first hour or so, while the other is used for more seasoned players.

Thursdays will be reserved for players who already have a good foundation (no one new to wallyball or volleyball).

Wallyball is, in its most basic description, "Volleyball played in a Racquetball Court". It is played with a Wallyball which is more like an oversized rubber handball or racquetball than a regulation volleyball. Single-wall hits are allowed, which makes for a faster-paced game.

This meetup will focus on the basic rules of wallyball and teach you the fundamentals of team wallyball play (bump, set and spike). We will strive to play at higher-level rules, but will continue game play and focus

on learning the sport and having a good time. We have a strict no-show rule due to the limited number of slots available. If you RSVP to the meetup, but do not show up, you will be waitlisted on future events and only allowed to attend if there is still open slots on the day prior to the event. Multiple no-shows will be grounds for dismissal from the group.

• Teams of 2, 3 or 4 players per side. In 4-player game play, the server cannot attack the net (spike).
• Serves are played from the back 3-feet of the player's side and must not touch the net. The serve can touch a single wall (not the opposing back wall or ceiling) prior to or after clearing the net.
• Serves can be underhand or overhand
• No paintbrush serves (open palm with a swiping motion to spin the ball)
• The opposing team cannot attack a serve (feet cannot leave the ground) and in higher levels of play the person receiving the serve cannot set the ball on the serve.
• Each side gets three hits, typically (bump or pass, set and spike).
• While the ball is being played on one side, the ball may hit any number of walls or ceiling, however, when sending the ball over the net the ball may only hit one wall (not the opposing back wall or ceiling).
• Kicking the ball is not allowed.
• A player may not make multiple contacts with the ball except when playing a hard driven spiked ball. If multiple contacts are made on a hard driven spiked ball and, if there is no finger action used during the effort and, if the ball is not held or thrown, then the multiple contact will count as a single contact. For the purposes of this rule, multiple contacts can come from a ball hit directly at a player or from a ball that is spiked off the wall.
• If the ball contacts any two body parts simultaneously, a single contact of the ball will be called. The body parts involved in the multiple contacts must be the waist or any part of the body above the waist.

Players will be evaluated on the following criteria and once mastered, may be invited to our advanced skill Wallyball Meetup which meets Mondays and Wednesdays at Herndon HCC.

• Ability to play as a team (minimize first and second hits over the net). Consistent (bump or pass, set and spike)
• Ability to play balls hit off the walls
• Ability to play positions
• Competitive playing

There is no fee for this meetup, however, the Herndon Community Center charges $8 for out of town guests and $7 for in-Town of Herndon guests. The locker rooms and racquetball courts are located down the long main hallway and to the left.
