We'll enjoy this 5 mile loop trail in Joshua Tree, California. It is considered a moderately challenging route. It is estimated to take an average of 2 h 24 min to complete, but we will be able to explore a little and stop to take breaks from time to time.
This gorgeous loop is one of many variations of routes that take you to the Maze area in Joshua Tree National Park. There are lots of great opportunities to check out the interesting rock formations, desert flora, and birds on this trail. We may see roadrunners, quail, and Steller's Jays on this hike.
We will have the opportunity to navigate the Maze section of this trail as we explore the boulder piles, high rock walls, and canyons that make up The Maze. Cairns mark the trail along the way through this section.
After we leave the Maze area, we'll look out for the Window Rock formation as we make our way back to the trailhead. The return trip is along a mostly flat desert floor, and sections of a broad sandy wash.
Weather at Joshua Tree National Park during this time of year will make for a comfortable hike (70's degrees), but bring plenty of water, salty snacks, sun protection, and a light jacket, just in case. There is also no reliable cell service in the park.
Sorry, but no dogs are allowed in the park.
We can meet at 8:30 AM, outside of the park, at the parking lot of Joshua Tree Visitor Center, at 6554 Park Blvd
Joshua Tree, CA 92252, and we can carpool or caravan to the trail head inside the park.
I have a national park pass, if 4 people would like to carpool with me. Otherwise, there is a $30 entrance fee to get into the park.
