It's FAT time of year again!
Global Fat Bike Day (GFBD) has always been both a virtual & tangible celebration by fans of "Fat Bikes". Groups from around the world gather 1st Saturday in December & share their love of fat bikes & post their gatherings on Facebook Fat Bikes Group and other social media.
Continuing the tradition we'll be hosting our annual "celebration" of GFBD with our Fellowship of Fat!
Parking is near the Lehighton Trailhead-D&L Trail. See map. Plenty of paved parking with a nice bike shop (Lehighton Outdoor Center).
We invite you to explore the trails around Jim Thorpe (JT) area in a group or on your own with 2 ride options depending upon how far you want to go & type of ride you want to do.
We encourage you to take selfie/photos & then post on Social Media (Facebook Fat Bikes Group) with hashtag #GFBD2024.
Post ride refreshment information will be posted in the Comments closer to the event.
While Fat & Plus bikes are preferred, all types of bicycles/bicyclists are welcome to help us celebrate this special day!
Here are your basic ride options for the Jim Thorpe Edition of Global Fat this year:
- FAT FRIENDLY - Approximately 18 miles round trip. 11 am start. A smorgasbord of trails including the D&L, road, single track, double track & about 1200' of climbing (climb out/descend back) through Jim Thorpe out to Mauch Chunk Lake. Fat/knobby tires & basic mountain bike handling skills are needed for this route.
- BIG & FAT - Up to 40ish miles - This ride will start at 9 am and head south on the D&L to Slatington then back to the start location where they will pick up the FAT FRIENDLY Riders and head out to Mauch Chunk Lake.
There will be a stop at Mauch Chunk Lake to get a Global Fat Day Group Photo.
There is no formal SAG (Support & Gear) for this celebration, but there are bike shops in Lehighton (Lehighton Outdoor Center) & another bike shop in JT in case you have a mechanical. Make sure your bike is in good working order & you have a spare tube & other essentials for your specific bike.
