Read and Discuss – (Meeting 2 of 2) Outlive by Peter Attia and Bill Gifford
Details
Not quite our usual finance-focus sort of book, but we wanted to try out something a bit different while still tying in important considerations for the financial burden that medical care can bring all throughout people's lives!
During this meetup, we will discuss Part III (~200 pages, the second half of) the book Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity by Peter Attia and Bill Gifford (along with any lingering discussion on the book as a whole):
"Wouldn’t you like to live longer? And better? In this operating manual for longevity, Dr. Peter Attia draws on the latest science to deliver innovative nutritional interventions, techniques for optimizing exercise and sleep, and tools for addressing emotional and mental health.
For all its successes, mainstream medicine has failed to make much progress against the diseases of aging that kill most people: heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and type 2 diabetes. Too often, it intervenes with treatments too late to help, prolonging lifespan at the expense of healthspan, or quality of life. Dr. Attia believes we must replace this outdated framework with a personalized, proactive strategy for longevity, one where we take action now, rather than waiting.
This is not “biohacking,” it’s science: a well-founded strategic and tactical approach to extending lifespan while also improving our physical, cognitive, and emotional health. Dr. Attia’s aim is less to tell you what to do and more to help you learn how to think about long-term health, in order to create the best plan for you as an individual."

Feel free to come even if you don't manage to get through all of the book! We usually meet in a room to the back of Fortnight's main inside seating area, but will mention in the comments if the room isn't available. No worries about coming in mid-discussion - we usually manage to get off-topic a couple of times anyways.
On a more general note for the meet-up, we rotate through different types of books, with some more historical or about current events and other more practical advice about how to do [something]. No shame if you listen to it on Audible! We generally meet at Fortnight Brewery, to enable our thirst to be quenched.
