What we’re about
We do fun and beautiful dances from around the world Thursdays 8:00-10:00 PM in the Nourishing Spirits Center on the campus of St. George's Episcopal Church, 808 Foothill Blvd, La Canada, CA 91011.
This is an ongoing group, and you are welcome to come any week.
More information is below. It's long, but we think you'll find it helpful.
We look forward to dancing and socializing with you!
Jan & Marc Rayman
International dancing is great exercise and a wonderful way to make friends. You will have fun dancing even on your first visit. This is a great opportunity for recreational dancers of all levels of experience (including those who have never danced) to learn and share the joy of moving to beautiful music from around the world. No partner or commitment to a series of lessons is needed. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
Have you always wanted to dance, but do not have a partner or a dance background? If so, international folk dancing might be for you. Our dance group is appropriate for adults of all ages, fitness levels, and dance experience (including first-time dancers). The dancing isn't that strenuous, but some of the music is so beautiful it might take your breath away.
If you can walk, you can folk dance. We never put pressure on anyone. Many folk dances are easily done, but a few are quite vigorous or complicated. If a particular dance seems to be too much, you can just join those sitting and watching. There is no need to try to learn all the dances taught.
Perhaps you enjoyed folk dancing in high school or college. Now you can experience that fun again with other adults. We teach old and new international folk dances, and we probably do some of the same dances you learned when you were in your teens or twenties.
There isn't much folksy about international folk dance. It includes both traditional and modern dances from many countries and cultures. This is a form of social dance, mostly done holding hands in a circle. Our group does a few partner dances, although most of our participants do not come with a partner, and the majority of the dances are non-partner. This hasn't kept people from finding that special person through international dance.
We use Meetup only for publicity, to help people (like you!) find our group. To learn more or to contact us, visit Foothill.Dance (no .com, .org, .net, or .anything else is needed).

This event is part of an ongoing group, and you are welcome to come any week. For your first visit, please try to arrive 5-10 minutes early so we can say hello before teaching starts.
We will teach several dances appropriate for both new and experienced dancers for half an hour or so, and there will be more dances you can join in after that. You will be dancing the first evening, even if you have never danced before. The particular dances we teach each week will depend on the dance experience of our participants.
We'll have a break at 9:00 for refreshments and socializing and then dance again until 10:00. (If you can't stay that late, it's perfectly fine to leave early.)
Your $5 helps pay our rent. This is not a business. We dance for the joy of it.
We are a very friendly group and very supportive of new participants. The teaching is extremely popular. No one is ever pressured or put on the spot. Our only goal is to have fun together.
We no longer require vaccinations or masks, but we encourage good health practices, and some participants wear masks.
We use Meetup only to attract new participants (like you!) and not for our normal communications. To learn more about our group or to contact us, please visit Foothill.Dance (no .com, .org, .net, or .anything else is needed).
