Kayak from Makapuu to Kailua - Mokulua Islands!! 8.6 Miles

Details

U.H. Makai Pier to Kailua Beach Park - 8.6 miles. -
ALOHA PADDLERS!!!! We’ll be meeting at the U.H. Makai Pier, about 1/4 mile on the Kailua side of Sea Life Park at 8:00 AM. We'll leave to shuttle the cars to Kailua Beach Park at 8:20, and we should be paddling away at 9:15- 9:30 AM. We can plan on finishing up between 1 - 2:30 PM, depending on how much we hang out at the rest stops.
We'll be paddling first to the Mokulua Islands where we’ll take a break, do a bit of exploration, snorkeling in the cove, paddle the cove, do some cliff jumping?? – all if winds & surf are permitting – and then paddle over to Kailua Beach and take out there. Another benefit of this route is that if you’d like to paddle, but don’t want to do the whole 7 or 8 mile route, you can start at Makai Pier and take out at Bellows beach, or start at Bellows Beach and meet us as we paddle by, and take out at Kailua after enjoying the Mokes for a while. So, Here’s the plan: We’ll meet at Makai Pier, 1/4 mile toward Kailua from Sea Life Park at 8:00AM . After offloading boats, we’ll leave to shuttle cars to Kailua Beach Park at 8:20. After driving back to the Pier, we should be paddling away from shore at approx. 9:15 to 9:30 and finishing at Kailua Beach at about 1:00 - 2:30 PM depending on how much time we hang out at the Mokes. One of the nice thing about this route is that we can stay inside the reef in the protected water if the wind or surf is up, or go out side for a bit of surfing, or head out to Rabbit Island. And then turn over toward the Mokes. We’ll make our choice depending on conditions and whichever way we decide to go, it’ll be a fun day on the water so we’ll see ya there!!
*==== CHANGED YOUR MIND? ====
Be sure to check the Meetup – Hua Iki web site for any changes and updates and to change your RSVP if you change your mind.
*==== KNOW YOUR LIMITS ====
Know your capabilities, limits, forecast conditions and check your equipment before you go. Sun Screen, hat and plenty of water are a must. Sun glasses, gloves and dry bag are a good idea. Remember to stay in sight of the group and TELL OTHERS IF YOU ARE LEAVING. You alone are responsible for your health and safety. Check conditions at http://www.surfnewsnetwork.com/ or call the National Weather service at 808-973-4380 (#2 to get wind speeds and #3 for surf report). Knowing the latest forecast, you can decide (based upon individual abilities) whether to paddle, or stay home and clean the yard.
