Board Game Night @ Jugendherberge Frankfurt

Details

Welcome to our board game group! If it’s the first time you join, we’re sure you’ll have a great time. We have an open and friendly group where anyone can find something to play, regardless of their level of experience with games. Even if you don’t own any games yourself, there are plenty of people bringing their own games that they explain and they have you playing in no time. If you are shy or hesitant about meeting new people, do not be worried at all, we have probably one of the friendliest and most approachable groups in meetup.

Information regarding financial stuff:

  • We have to pay for the room (60 Euros) and we charge everyone 3.75 Euros for participating. If everyone shows up, we can save a little bit of money to compensate the times when we lose if we don’t have enough people. Nobody is making any profit, the money is going directly to pay the hostel fees for renting the room, as well as the cost of the meetup group and the cut that paypal takes out of everyone’s payment.
  • IMPORTANT: If you did not rsvp and you still come to the event, we cannot let you come inside. PLEASE RSVP
  • If you payed via paypal but can't make it to the event: Please let the organizers know that you cannot make it before the end of Wednesday in the week of the event. That way, they will save a spot for you in a future event when there are still spots left. Just write to them in the week you’d like to attend. We don’t refund paypal payments because paypal takes a fee when you pay us and they take another one when we pay you back.

For every available game that you want to join, someone who brought the game will explain the rules before starting, so you don't need to prepare anything in advance if you don't want to. However, if you want other people to play your games, you'll be expected to teach them to the people that will be offering to play with you. As you can see, we do this as a community, anybody can step up and organise a specific game of something they like! We definitely encourage you to do it. If you offer to host a game one particular night and you cannot find anyone to play with you, don't become frustrated, try again the following Friday, "Patience is the key that opens the last door." (Arab proverb).

Don't be afraid that the games being played might be to difficult if you're new to boardgames. It's almost guaranteed that you'll be explained a game that you'll quickly understand and enjoy. Just please take care of other people’s games, don’t bend the cards, don’t throw things away.

In general, the games are played in English as many of the participant aren't native german speakers. However, if everyone at the table agrees, it is ok to play in german. Just be nice: if one person at the table cannot understand the language you are trying to speak, you should use English.
