Castle Christmas Market hike (14 miles)

Footpaths were created over the ages trodden by farmhands, tinkers and labourers heading to their daily toil, merchants and drovers taking their livestock and goods to market.

This Saturday, the castle at the walk's end will be holding its Christmas market selling festive food, gifts, crafts, and more, as well as a fairground and entertainment.

Beforehand, Sacombe is a remote place, its church set high on a wooded hilltop has views across the pretty valley. When no one is looking, rabbits, badgers, muntjac and other deer frequent the churchyard. Inside, Thomas Rolt was the Governor of Surat & Bombay from 1677 to 1681.

Travel Details:
Take the train departing 9.42 AM from London Liverpool Street to HERTFORD EAST arrives 10.31.
Buy an off peak day return to HERTFORD EAST which is £7.35 with Groupsave or a Network card.
Walk start: 10.35 from Hertford East rail station. Circular walk.
Bring a packed lunch. Pub stop for drinks

As most of our trips are confirmed or postponed very close to the event date - heavily depending on the weather forecasts - we advise not to buy this until the last minute.
