Is Failure Fundamental to Humanity's Evolution?
Details
December's study will be conducted by Bro. Kristine Wilson-Slack as he asks the question, "Is Failure Fundamental to Humanity's Evolution?"
Synopsis:
Our Western obsession with success is hard to overlook. Everywhere we compete, rank, and measure. Yet this relentless drive to be the best blinds us to something vitally important: the need to be humble in the face of life’s challenges. For Freemasons, striving to be better is a core component of who we aim to be; yet, the lessons of failure can teach us to learn with grace and humility and thus find the true path to the perfecting of Humanity. Squarely challenging a culture obsessed with success, “In Praise of Failure” argues that failure is vital to a life well lived, curing us of arrogance and self-deception and engendering humility instead. The question that we’ll be discussing is, “Is failure fundamental to Humanity’s evolution?”
Mission Statement:
The Masonic Philosophical Society embraces the concept of learning, not for school, but for life, and believes that all men, who seek it, deserve access to continued education. We further embrace the concept of a community environment where ideas can be shared and debated in an open forum. From the seven liberal arts to the arcane, we seek to gain and share the knowledge that is the legacy of mankind.
