Join the Fullerton Hiking Club for a thrilling hike on the West Ridge to Car Wreck Trail and Mathis Canyon Loop! This iconic Laguna Beach trail features challenging climbs, spectacular coastal views, and a quirky twist—the mysterious "Car Wreck" site. This 1940s vehicle, abandoned deep in the canyon, adds a fun surprise to our adventure. We’ll meet on Sunday, November 24, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM PST for a 3.4-mile loop hike that promises stunning scenery and a great workout.
Trail Overview: The hike kicks off with a steep climb up the West Ridge Trail, rewarding us with panoramic views of Laguna Beach. As we descend into Mathis Canyon, the trail narrows and becomes rocky, leading us to the famous "Car Wreck" site—a perfect photo opportunity. Be prepared for a challenging ascent back up Mathis Canyon, as the 1,200 feet of elevation gain makes this trail difficult, especially for those unfamiliar with steep and uneven terrain.
Important: Dogs are not allowed on this trail, so please leave your furry friends at home.
We’ll provide energy bars and hydration packs at the trailhead, but make sure to bring your own essentials for the hike.
