SAS Special Christmas Program - Adaptive Wisdom of Birds
Details
Join us for the Sacajawea Audubon Society annual special Christmas program at the Emerson Theater! Wildlife photographer Tom Murphy will present "A Look at the Adaptive Wisdom of Birds".
Tom has made photographs in wild places around the world. Birds are our constant companions everywhere and he works to illustrate their behavior. His questions are what are they and who are they? How are they able to prosper on every continent? They have evolved to negotiate our complex earth in amazing ways with adaptations involving feathers, nest building, migratory route finding, feeding behaviors, flight, and other activities we still don’t understand. Not only are these traits interesting and compelling they are also beautiful.
Tom grew up outdoors on a cattle ranch in western South Dakota. After moving to Livingston Montana in 1978 to be near Yellowstone Park, he was the first person licensed, in 1986, to teach photography in the Park. He has written and illustrated twelve books, including a set of the seasons of Yellowstone and Birds, Masters of the Air Land and Water. Featured in the PBS Nature film, “Christmas in Yellowstone”, his winter photography is also highlighted in a new film biography, released in December 2024. He donates his work to conservation groups helping preserve wildlife and wild land. Some of his work can be seen on his web site: www.tmurphywild.com/
