A few of us from my Exploring Music group are attending the Scottish Chamber Orchestra concert in the Usher Hall on 26th September at 7.30.

From earthy folk melodies to richly Romantic passions – what better way to launch a new Season than in the company of Czech maestro Antonín Dvořák and charismatic Principal Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev?
After the bright colours of the exuberant Carnival Overture, world-renowned cellist Steven Isserlis – himself a passionate Dvořák devotee – brings new insights and fresh perspectives to the intimate tenderness of the much-loved Cello Concerto.

The plan is to meet in the gallery of the upper tier at 7pm for a chat and perhaps go for a drink to the Traverse Bar after.

My next Exploring Music, which is posted separately, is at 1.30pm on the 13th October at the Edinburgh Society of Musicians in Belford Road.
The first half theme will be New Orleans Jazz from the 1920s, so expect Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five and Sevens and Bessie Smith illustrated with videos and vinyl. The second half will be live music on the Steinway from myself and invited guests Including Beethoven, Liszt and an Impressionist Magical Mystery Tour!
