What we’re about
We get out and do volunteer work in our community. Alone we can make an impact by volunteering but as a group we can make a huge impact, and we have. Please join us if you are like-minded and want to help make our Spokane community better. We have a lot of fun.
Here are our ground rules and guidelines. It seems to be working.
- No political projects. Please feel free to do that on your own but we are non-partisan :-)
- No church affiliation. What we mean here is no direct support of an individual church. Groups like the Salvation Army, UGM or City Gate are fantastic, however.
- If we commit to an organization for a project we need to follow through and show up. Meaning, no late cancellations or no-shows. We know things will come up but if we commit we need to be there.
- Our group recognizes and celebrates diversity and the differences of the people we work with and serve. We welcome all backgrounds regardless of race and sexual orientation. We reject racism and bigotry in all forms. Our expectation is that our members will treat group members, the people we work with and serve, and the organizations we support, with dignity and respect. Failure to do this may result in being removed from our volunteer group, which we hope to avoid.
- If you bring a project idea we ask that you be willing to help with planning and running the project. Ideas are great but we are a group based on taking action.
- We will not be posting volunteer events in the Meetup App itself. That will be handled outside of the App with an email distribution list. To participate we require that each member attend at least one planning meeting where we will collect email addresses for our distribution list. We look forward to meeting you :-)
- We avoid projects that are geared toward fund raising. Money can complicate things. That said, we will do an occasional supply drive for organizations like SCRAPS, Family Promise or City Gate which we have done before.
