Details

The Riprap loop hike has some scenic views from rock outcroppings, and follows pretty streams with a waterfall for a couple miles.

We will carpool from Fontaine Research Park. We can also pick people up at the Afton Hojo’s if you let me know in advance. We will park at the Wildcat Ridge trailhead on SNP and start the hike there.

Difficulty: Moderately Strenuous-Strenuous

Note on difficulty: This hike will have 2,200' of elevation change over 9.8 miles. There are a few stream crossings but they should not be difficult unless we get significant rain this week.

Where: For those wanting to carpool and/or caravan out together, we will meet at Fontaine research park. We will start our hike at the Wildcat Ridge parking area.

Fees & Such: Of course for the carpool to work, some have to offer to drive so others can ride. Riders, please give your driver $5.00 to cover their expenses. Also, note that there is a entrance fee to the Park. If you already have a Park Pass, please bring it.

Supplies: please bring plenty of water and wear hiking boots/shoes. Bring lunch, and snacks. Wear layers of clothing so that you can add/subtract layers as your body heats up or cools down. Please check the forecast, and remember it is usually about 10 degrees cooler in the mountains, and it is often windy on the ridgeline.

Dog Policy: If you want to hike with your pup, please check out our - Dog Policy ( https://4142298.xyz/GetHiking-Charlottesville-Charlottesville-VA/pages/22042321/Dog_Policy/ ). The simple basics are dogs need to be on a short (max 6', non-retractable - Park rule) leash, owners need to pick up after their dog, your pup will need plenty of drinking water, dogs need to be well behaved and capable of keeping up with the pace of the two legged hikers.
