What we’re about
Built upon the fundamental concepts Bitcoin introduced in 2008, Ethereum was released in 2015. Ethereum has rapidly grown to become the most popular platform for decentralised applications and the second largest blockchain by market capitalisation.
The meetup aims to facilitate technical discussions as well as provide help and (not financial!) advice to people who have just heard about Ethereum and the power of decentralised applications and want to learn more. With Ethereum's rapidly expanding ecosystem and core developments we know that the amount of information can be overwhelming at times.
Some of the topics we might cover are decentralised applications (Dapps), core protocol developments such as the transition to proof of stake, mining, staking, how to learn Solidity, general market chit chat and the philosophies underpinning the rapid adoption of blockchain technologies in general. If this all sounds interesting to you then definitely pop along to one of our meetups!
*****About our meetups*****
We meet once a month for an informal social where members can meet up to discuss and learn about Ethereum and we try to have a larger event once a quarter with talks based around a specific theme. When you attend one of our social meetups you can expect the following:
- We adopt a "friendly first and knowledgeable second" approach :)
- If this is your first meetup then we will send you some free ETH! If you don't know which wallet to use then we recommend the Argent wallet: https://www.argent.xyz/
- You will receive a POAP for attending the meetup - you can learn more about POAPs here: https://poap.xyz/
- If you attend at least two meetups and therefore collect two POAPs then you are eligible for your own glasgow.eth subdomain, for example if your name is Satoshi you might like satoshi.glasgow.eth - you can learn more about ENS here: https://docs.ens.domains/
- Printouts of the previous months worth of https://weekinethereumnews.com/ will be available to read.
- Ethereum stickers
- We bring a collection of Ethereum books that can be borrowed until the next meetup.
As well as being fun, we will use the list of POAP holders as a mechanism for airdropping items that are applicable to members. We will also have raffles for POAP holders for the change to win an awesome prize!
