Hi ladies,

As the year continues to fly passed, the committee want to give you notice of the Gals AGM so you can get the date in your diary. The AGM will take place on Saturday 8th February 2025, 12.30pm-2pm at Thenue, 423 London Road, Glasgow, G40 1AG. There is parking close by at Glasgow Green and on Tobago Street. There are bike stands outside the building. It is on a main bus route and is close to Bridgeton and Argyle Street train stations. This will be an in person meeting, not an online event. We do not have capacity to make this an online event at this time.

We will follow the AGM with a short Ride Leaders catch up meeting 2.30-3.30pm to get stuck into planning for 2025.

I will create events on Meet Up for both events in due course, please indicate your attendance on Meet Up, or send your apologies closer to the time. If you would like to get more involved with the ride leaders in 2025, please do let us know. We have started a list of people who are interested in Ride Leader training.

At the AGM, we have a couple of people stepping down from the committee, and we would like these roles to be filled again from our membership.

Charlotte Wilson will be stepping down as Social Events Coordinator, and Claire Pioli will be stepping down as Social Media Manager. If you would like to stand for either of these roles, please let our committee know by emailing us at glasgowgals@gmail.com to register your interest. A huge thank you to Claire and Charlotte for all of your hard work in these roles.

I have been Chair of Glasgow Gals since the club started in 2017. I am a founding member of the club and it plays a huge part in my life. But, in 2025 I would like to step down from this role. It’s time for someone else to take the lead, make the decisions, and steer the club. We have an amazing 165members, and I am confident we have someone within our membership, in fact we have a number of people, who would be great for this role. A Chair is a decision maker, a guide, a people person. I would like to just focus on rides for a while. In terms of governance, I feel it is healthy to have a change of Chair, or we will get stuck in a rut with the same aims, the same people, doing the same thing. We should have changed before now, but we’ve had other issues to deal with in the last few years. Let’s get a breath of fresh air into the club, shake things up a bit.

Anyone who wishes to stand for a committee role should let the committee know at least 3 weeks ahead of the AGM. We will send round an agenda in January ahead of the meeting, and only the items on the agenda will be discussed at the meeting. If you would like anything added to the agenda, please let us know. We will send a reminder in January too.

If anyone wants to have an informal chat about any of the roles, please do get in touch. Please do chat and encourage anyone who you feel would be suitable to step up.

All of our committee are volunteers, and they all put a huge amount of time and effort into running our club, especially behind the scenes – thank you to all of you. Without a committee, our club can’t exist. You are a key part of the club.

Although the colder weather is now upon us, I hope you are all still getting out on your bikes!
