What we’re about
Welcome to Glasgow Young Walkers (GYW), a walking group for young adults based in Glasgow. How young you ask? Well, we have members in their 20s, 30s & 40s. So really, anyone over 18 is welcome to join!
We have an active walks programme with a walk organised most weekends. From urban walks and Munro's to weekend trips in the countryside, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Join us to meet like-minded outdoor enthusiasts, explore beautiful locations, and create unforgettable memories. So whether you’re new to walking, or never far from the mountains, we’ll happily welcome you! On the social side we have regular pub nights as well as other events throughout the year.
We are a Ramblers affiliated group. Not a Ramblers member? No problem, you can still join us for up to 3 walks. Once you become a Ramblers member you will have access to a variety of training courses, including first aid, navigation and walk leadership that will enhance your hill skills and up your confidence levels plus a huge variety of other membership benefits.

Join Glasgow Young Walkers for a walk around Gorebridge, close to Edinburgh. As per Walkhighlands : "This enjoyable and varied circuit explores the hidden wooded ravines of the Gore Water and the South Esk. It visits the ruins of Temple Church - once an important site of the Knights Templar - and the mansion of Arniston House." The plan is to head to Christmas market in Edinburgh after the walk, then take the train back to Glasgow.

- Distance: 8.5 miles
- Ascent: 304 m
- Duration: 3.5- 4 hours
- Terrain: Mixed: woodland and field paths, tracks, short sections of minor road. Short section can be very overgrown. Note grazing animals are present around Arniston Farm - both sheep and cows.
Getting there
By car: The starting point of the walk is 1 hour 10 minutes by car from the city centre of Glasgow. If you can offer a lift, please add this to the comments with the number of places you have. Non drivers will be expected to contribute towards fuel costs.Public transport:
There is a train at 7:56 am from Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley. Bus nr. 29 leaves from Princes Street (Stop PH) to Gorebridge and arrives at the Gorebridge leisure centre at about 9:51 am. There are regular buses back to the city centre of Edinburgh from Gorebridge.
Please note that number of attendees is limited to 15 people for this walk.This is a moderate walk which is suitable for all fitness levels. Please wear suitable walking boots ( the path can get boggy and overgrown) and bring your full waterproofs. Please also make sure that have food and water on you.
