Winter Wonders, Hike to Arundel Castle and Festive lights

Starting at Amberley Station, this scenic hike follows the South Downs Way toward Rackham Hill, offering stunning views of the Arun Valley and beyond. The open, grassy ridges provide sweeping vistas over the countryside, with the English Channel visible on clear days. After reaching Rackham Hill, turn south toward Barpham Hill, where the landscape opens further, revealing rolling hills and distant fields.
The route then leads into the peaceful Wepham Woods, a tranquil stretch with tall oak and beech trees. In autumn, the golden foliage creates a magical atmosphere, making this section feel secluded and serene.
As you descend from the woods, you’ll begin to catch glimpses of Arundel Castle in the distance. Its imposing towers rise dramatically over the town, offering a breathtaking sight as you approach. Closer to Arundel, the Christmas lights twinkle in the gathering dusk, adding a festive charm to the picturesque town.
The hike finishes in Arundel, where you can explore the cobbled streets illuminated by holiday lights, with the majestic castle overlooking the scene. This hike beautifully combines hilltop views, peaceful woodlands, and a magical descent into the historic, festive town.

GRADE: Beginner, 15 km 4.5 hrs hiking time, undulating terrain on well surfaced paths over downland and through woodlands.
