The Fabulous Fens and the The magical Cambridge Christmas Market

GRADE: Beginner/intermediate 20 km 12m 48m ascent 5hr 30 mins walking time, an half hour for break on a mixture of surfaces and undulating paths

We Start our hike in the village of Waterbeach just a hours train ride from Kings Cross. From here we head out into the Cambridgeshire fens this area is noted for large open fields with skies to match.We may be lucky and see large flocks of birds migrating south. Following footpaths weaving between the drainange ditches we come to the wooded grounds of Angelsey abbey. We Pass Lode mill once a busy mill now beautifully restored. On leaving the grounds of the abbey we now head south across the fens before we meet the River Cam. From here we follow the river all the way into the heart of the city. We first come to Midsummer common a large open area of land in the city were people enjoying some outdoor space do so along side grazing Cattle. Its now a short walk until we reach the heart of the city and the towering colleges and the famous backs .Cambridge will be dressed in all its Christmas lights And the stunning Christmas market will be held in Parkers Piece. You are welcome to join us for a drink maybe a mulled wine or a hot chocolate or you may have some last minute gifts to buy or you may wish to explore some of the many alleyways that wind through the centre of the City.

MEETING TIME: 09.50 at Waterbeach station

TRAINS: Trains from London Kings Cross , 08.42 train to Waterbeach arriving at 9.44 journey time 1hr 2 mins , Return train from Cambridge

WALK STARTS: 09.50 at Waterbeach station

LUNCH: Pack lunch

WALK FINISHES: Approx 16.30 at Cambridge
