- Field Trip - Gravel Ride!!!!1 Stoller Family Estate winery -Stoller Family Estate, Dayton, OR
Our typical Stoller Family Winery ride is under blue summer our autumn skies. Let's try something a little different. A "winter" gravel ride. We might get a little damp. We might get a little dirty. But we're going to have a great time. We'll start and end at Stoller Family Estate with a leisurely excursion through the Ribbon Ridge, Dundee Hills and the Yamhill-Carlton (depending on route) AVAs.
Cost: You don't have to drink any wine. But if you do, you can either buy wine or a tasting flight (fee waived with a 2 bottle purchase). Please note: they no longer allow outside food. I'll attach a link to the menu in the comments section

Attitude: This is NOT a beginner ride unless you are confident in your bike handling and you are in good enough shape to do the entire course. That said, it isn't going to be at race pace and it's not going to be a sufferfest by any means. A change of clothes is recommended. Ride Host: Ed Lanton. 971-258-6066; [email protected]
IMPORTANT:
- Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49016179 . Expect a majority of the route to be on gravel roads. Apart from the gravel roads, much of the route will be on narrow, rural roads with possibly significant high speed auto and truck traffic. So be prepared for that. In addition, although we're riding in the morning, we are riding in a major wine tasting region so there's always a chance of impaired drivers (as well as drivers that are just impaired by cell phones, fighting children or the stunning views). Review the route carefully and if you're not comfortable riding in these conditions please do NOT sign up for this ride.
- Restrooms. Although we'll have access to the property at 10:15, we might not have access to restrooms until 11. So you'll want to make sure you're good to go (actually, good to not go) at the ride start. There will be a restroom stop in Carlton.
- Let's carpool, folks!
- Of course you may enjoy wine with lunch, but DO NOT drive impaired. I'm not talking about the legal limit. I'm talking about physical and/or mental impairment. If in doubt, I'm sure there will be riders who do not drink who may be able to drive for you or just wait it out. I can't stress this enough, but you already know this, right?
Weather Cancellation Policy: Since this is a field trip and there's some driving involved, we'll cancel this and reschedule in the event of anything more than a minor sprinkle. I'll post a go/no-go the evening before the ride. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jeB9_VmkNc
Required Gear: HELMETS must be worn at all times while riding. This is a requirement and not a request.
Recommended Gear: Bring plenty of water, food, flat repair kit, with a spare tube. A tool kit and small pump is good, but if you don’t have one there is usually someone on a group ride who does. Please check to see if someone has what you might need if you don't and be prepared to ride a bus or call a cab. (Not that we'll leave you by the road broken down, because that's not us). Carry a credit card and a little cash to buy refreshments or buy that bus ticket....
Obey traffic laws and remember you’re a representative of the greater cycling community and should conduct yourself that way on the road. Please represent us well.
All riders must have their rides in good working order and must bring a flat kit & spare tube. If there is an issue with proper working or lack of equipment you may be asked to sit the ride out. Please ask for help if you are ill equipped prior to the ride. We will try to help!
All riders must be able to change a flat should they have one or have a way to get picked up (AAA, a friend…). There is often but not always someone on the ride who knows how to help you change your tire so plan accordingly.Note: Your RSVP signifies that you agree to the following. Organizers, event hosts and other participants will not be held responsible for any individual at any event. Each rider rides at their own risk and is solely responsible for any damage to their equipment or themselves.
Final Note: RSVP’s cannot include a +1 or Guest. If you choose to bring a friend or family member, they must sign up as a member of GTD.
Really, really final note. No ear buds, please - Bike the Lights - Bike Night 2024 at PIR Winter Wonderland Sun. 12-1-24Radio Room, Portland, OR
This is a long time GTD, tradition, Bike the Lights night at Winter Wonderland. It's bikes only. No cars, no strollers, no dogs.
Yes it's cold and dark. Yes, it's a short, slow ride. But people get really excited about this ride because of lights!!!! Lots of blinking lights!!! And maybe a chat over a beer and pizza as we warm ourselves. And it's the promise hidden the dark, that the days will soon be getting longer and once again there will be a summer of riding adventures. We'll meet at Radio Room on Alberta Ave and ride over together to PIR. Once there, we'll use murmation to navigate the group through the Winter Wonderland. It's worked well for us in the past. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eakKfY5aHmY
We'll regroup in the parking lot and ride back together. If the weather is good, we'll extend the ride a little if the group is feeling frisky. If not, we'll just head back to Double Mountain
Important note: Admission for 2024 is $16 unless you're 13 years or younger (it's chronological age, how young you feel. On a bike, we all feel like kids again). Mandatory for all riders: This is a night ride. Therefore at a minimum you MUST have legally sufficient lighting front and rear.
