What we’re about
The Grand Junction Zen (GJ Zen) Community is dedicated to providing a welcoming, inclusive, safe space for those looking to deepen their spiritual practice and establish deeper roots within their community.
Our practice follows the traditions and forms of Rinzai Zen, and we welcome anyone who is interested in learning more to come sit with us. New to Zen? New to Buddhism? Not a problem - we are happy to provide instruction on the forms to all newcomers.
Weekly Scheduled Offerings:
**Note: Sunday Zazen is on hiatus pending renovation of the zendo**
We apologize for the inconvenience, and will update when an ETA for completion is available; shouldn't be too long!
Sunday Mornings: Zazen, 9am-11am; with optional social time following. The Grand Junction Zen Community meet regularly to practice in the forms we have learned from our teachers. A typical Sunday session comprises:
- Zazen, or seated meditation, is the first and most primary practice modality of our group.
- Kinhin, or walking meditation, is an opportunity to take the peace and insight gleaned from zazen into action.
- Choka, or chanting, is an opportunity to connect mind and body through sound.
Extra zafus (cushions) and chairs are available for attendees, and Zoom attendance is available as well.
Tuesday Evenings: Informal Zoom study group, 7pm-end.
Additionally, we periodically have Zazenkai (all-day sittings), holiday celebrations, and more.
There has been a Zen presence in Grand Junction for many decades. This particular group began sitting together in 2022, and is currently meeting at the home of the group's founder. We would love to have you!
