Cades Cove (almost) Full Moon walk

Details

Well, someone convinced me to do one more.

We will meet at the information Kiosk at 7:20 well after the sunset (at 5:22pm). The Rangers will close the gate to traffic shortly after sunset so we can walk the short loop +/-3.75 mile. We will leave maybe around 7:30 depending on traffic and when the ranger comes to shut the gate. This will take us down the main road to cross at Sparks Lane the first gravel road, we typically stop here to regroup for a few minutes and be sure everyone makes the turn. About half way through, there is a water crossing +/-2" deep about 10' across. Then we will meet up with the other side of the main road, we will re group a gain here, then take a left, and loop back to our cars. Typically, we naturally break into a few smaller groups, it would be nice to have a few volunteers to help keep us organized and be sure no one gets taken away by Wile E. Coyote.

It will be a full (Super) moon (Beaver/Frost Moon) it is said to rise at 4:19pm. However, it may take a while to get over the mountians and actually give us light.

You will want to have a flashlight or head lamp with red light, which is pefered, water, and typical hiking essentials. If you have something bright or reflective to wear, it would be good to wear it. There are a lot of bikers that ride this at night, and it is better to be seen. The weather will cool quickly, so having extra layers is always good. Rain protection would be wise in the Smokies.
