DC Greek Language Meetup

Γιασσας! Hope folks are hanging in there. We had a great MeetUp last month at Taverna Cretekou. For the third month in a row we will not meet on the last Thursday of the month. Instead, to avoid Thanksgiving, we'll hold our annual November/December MeetUp mash-up and meet on Thursday, Dec. 5th at 7:30 at Mykonos Grill in Rockville.

Here are a few more events to flag:

• On Saturday, November 9th, MeetUp alumnus Ellie Ganelin and her Kombos Collective return to DC to perform songs from the new album Uproot, her program of Anatolian refugee songs. The concert starts at 8:00 pm at the Edgewood Community Farm, 2304 2nd St NE, Washington, DC. Tickets at $20 and can be purchased here: https://www.viewcy.com/e/uproot_house_concert
• She's also performing on Sunday, Nov. 10th at 1 pm at Annunciation in Baltimore. I have a conflict on the 9th, so will catch Ellie in Baltimore.
• Also on the 9th, Saint Sophia will hold its annual Taverna Night in honor of Veterans Day. It starts at 6:00 p.m. and will feature Greek food, a complimentary wine bar, and live music featuring George Theodoridis and the Palko Band. Tickets are $75 per person, and they can be purchased via ptpoulos@saintsophiadc,com. Since this is a three-day weekend there is a good chance I'll be out of town for both of these events but I am more likely to attend Uproot. • Finally, the 88th annual Laconian Society Dance will be held Saturday, November 30th at 8 pm at the Bethesda Marriott, The event will feature music by Apollonia and a cash bar. Tickets are $70 and available at dcgreeks. com.
