This is one of our most aggressive events and the total length is a fraction more than 25 miles. (Our group tends to be older... an aggressive event to us might not be strenuous to younger and healthier cyclists.) We start from the Stinson Airport Trailhead and pedal the loop trail over to the Mission Reach trail, and ride south to the connection with the Medina River Greenway Trail. We proceed on the Medina River Trail and cross Roosevelt Avenue and ride a short stretch through the Mission Del Lago development and then continue on the trail again, past Mitchell Lake to the Pleasanton Road Trailhead on the Medina River Greenway Trail. We will continue and go a couple miles further into the Medina River Valley for a more adventurous trail with descents and climbs through switchback turns.
The Medina River Greenway Trail is currently open past Pleasanton Rd, so I plan to continue another 2 or 3 miles that will take us through the switchbacks around the Leon Creek bridge. We will turn around a bit past 12.5 miles, so the round trip will be a little over 25 miles.
Those wishing a less challenging ride can turn around at ether the Roosevelt Avenue (US281) crossing for a total 11 mile ride, or at the Pleasanton Rd Trailhead for a bit over 20 miles total ride. If you stop and rest at the Pleasanton Rd Trailhead, we will return and pick you up for the return leg in about 25 minutes.
The ride is easy to moderate until we reach the Pleasanton Rd Trailhead. It becomes much more physically challenging past that point.
Every 3rd Saturday of the month until April 20, 2025
