Tour de Belwood (20 km)
Details
This 20 km, 5 hour hike will take us on a loop around Belwood Lake, one of the seven reservoirs built to regulate the Grand River and prevent floods downstream in its watershed. From the village of Belwood we will follow the Grand Valley Trail to the South, along the western shore of Belwood Lake. We will then connect with the Elora-Cataract Trailway, follow it on Shand Dam at the south end of the lake and then head back North along the Eastern side of the lake, closing our loop at Wellington 26 Road. Along the way we will enjoy a variety of landscapes (forests, open fields, agricultural land, low-density residential) and wildlife. Some parts of the trail are close to the lake, some further inland.
Wear good hiking shoes. Pack lots of water, munchies, a hat, and rain gear. Also bring a lunch as we will be stopping for lunch around noon.
Registration is mandatory through the Grand Valley Trail Association website, https://www.gvta.on.ca/HikesEvents.htm
