What we’re about

What do we do?
We organise informal monthly talks by speakers who take an evidence-based and accessible approach to their subject, and also meet socially once a month for drinks and food. Winchester Skeptics in the Pub is run by a non-profit organisation, The Hampshire Skeptics Society.

Where is the venue?
The Winchester Club, Highfield Lodge, Worthy Lane, Winchester, SO23 7AB

Where do we park?
Free parking is available from 6pm onwards in the adjacent Worthy Lane or Cattle Market car parks (both postcode SO23 7AB). Pedestrian access to the Club from the car park is either via the access road or via the gate (signed ‘Fire Exit’) behind the club. Follow the carpark round to the left, then round to the right so that you are between the ESSO garage across the road and the white building of The Winchester Club. The gate entrance to The Winchester Club is directly opposite the ESSO garage. Disabled parking is also available at the Club car park. Follow the access road at the right (signposted The Bowls Club), immediately after entering the Worthy Lane car park.

Is there disabled access?
There is disabled access to the club, but no dedicated accessible toilets.

What is the entry fee? Do we need to book in advance?
£5 entrance per person is payable on the door, with no advance ticket needed. The ticket also includes a book raffle. When available, this will be a copy of the book by the speaker.

Do you take credit cards?
Yes, all credit and debit cards are accepted. Cash is also accepted.

Are books available on the night?
If there is a book by the speaker available, P&G Wells will be invited to provide books to purchase on the night. Books may be signed if requested. Books may be purchased by card or cash.

Is there a bar?
Yes, there is a bar serving drinks and crisps. No other food is available. Drinks are also available at the interval and we highly recommend that these are ordered in advance prior to the talk to assist the bar staff with the interval rush.

What is the format of the evening?
The venue opens at 7pm. Drinks are available from the bar, and we encourage people to come into the hall for a 7.30pm start. After the talk we will have announcements and the book raffle then an interval, when the bar will be open (please pre-order for the interval). After the interval we will have a Q&A. The evening usually finishes around 9.30pm, when you're welcome to join us for a post-talk drink at the bar.

New attendee?
Please speak to a member of the organising committee (easily identified by our name badges) who will pleased to welcome you and answer any questions that you have.

MeetUp Members
We use MeetUp to help advertise our talks. There is no fee for joining the group, and there is no requirement to book via MeetUp. However, please feel free to indicate you are coming along so we know to expect you.
