Mt. Everett-Mt. Race, Washington, MA

PLEASE EXPECT ICE AND SNOW ON THE TRAIL. MICROSPIKES ARE REQUIRED. WINTER EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
We will head out to the Taconic Range in the Northwest corner of CT and southwest corner of Massachusetts. This is the home of Bear Mountain and Mt. Frissel. This section of the Appalachian Trail is many ups and downs. Summer plans dictate climbing training-at least for me.

This will be a 7.5 mile hike with 2500' of climbing. We will start at the Mt. Everett park entrance off East St. In the winter this road is closed and the parking area is by the lower gate. It will start with a walk up the road, then we will summit Mt. Everett, head down into the cul, up to the summit of Mt. Race and back.
I will be watching the weather to offer more information closer to the event. Everyone will be put on a waitlist and moved over by me. I reserve the right to assemble a group of my choosing.

Please bring a pack with water (insulated bottles), food, extra clothes, camera, sunscreen, appropriate cold weather gear (gloves-hat-googles), boots (preferably insulated), micro spikes.

Please note travel from Hartford Area is approximately 2 hours.
Please check your route, download the GPS at home, know your travel time. Arrive early enough to start at the posted start time.
Items you must consider for every event:

• If you have an event after a hike, please do not sign up for the hike.
• End times are only an estimate.
• The group will not adjust speed or trail route to accommodate your schedule.
• If you cannot attend an event, please cancel 48 hours before. Late cancellations are rude and take away the option for others to join the event.
• Be a good hiking human

Please no children. Dogs need to be comfortable in winter conditions.
