Shakespeare & Drama Book Club

We're celebrating the 11th anniversary of our “Shakespeare Book Club” with the West Hartford Public Library! Since this is an election year, the theme for the 2024-2025 season is “Power Plays & Players.”

This theme seemed an appropriate and timely examination of Shakespeare’s stories of the players of power and how the seats of power are exchanged. The season will examine eight of Shakespeare’s plays about power, some based on historical events and some taking place in imaginary worlds. All of them thoughtfully and powerfully reveal human behavior in those moments when power is gained, and lost!

Discussions are held on Zoom on the first Monday of each month from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. AND in person at the Noah Webster Public Library, 20 South Main Street, in West Hartford.

Don't miss Shakespeare's epic tragedy "King Lear," as part of the 2025 Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival.

And, you can double your Shakespeare by catching "Twelfth Night" on another night, as these two plays are performed in repertory this summer!

Wednesdays - Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.
Sundays at 5:30 p.m.

Audience members are encouraged to bring their family, friends, lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic dinner.

Performances are held outdoors, adjacent to the Bruyette Athenaeum (indoors in the case of rain or excessive heat), on the beautiful campus of the University of Saint Joseph, 1678 Asylum Avenue in West Hartford, Connecticut.

General Admission tickets for each show are $25. The discount ticket price for seniors (65 and up), full-time students (with ID), active military (with ID), groups of 10 or more is $17. For audience members wanting to see both plays, there is a multiple-show price of $20 for each show at the General Admission rate; $15 per person for each show for seniors, full-time students, active military, and groups of 10 or more. In addition, groups of 10 or more can also get special reserved lawn locations.
