What is rueda de casino? It quite literally translates as “wheel of casino”. Casino is form of social dancing that originated in Cuba late 1950s. Rueda de casino is danced in a circle or “wheel” with two or more couples who are creating figures and changing partners as the caller or “cantante” calls out different moves (similar to contra dancing). Ruedas are very social and fun, bringing community together in a unique way!
In this series, you will learn the basic movements and calls used to dance in a rueda. Many of these moves are perfectly usable even with one partner! By the end of the course, you will have the basic building blocks of many figures used in almost any rueda!
