Buck Spring Trail; a Saunter
Details
We are the Sloth Hiking Group: “We will get there when we get there.”
John Muir didn’t like the word ‘hike’. “We ought to saunter through them reverently, not 'hike' through them.”
I am going to Saunter along a portion of the Buck Spring Tr along the Pisgah Ridge near the BRPkwy. This is the winter version of the trail. A few of you are welcome to join me.
Length: 4 mi (in & out) to Picnic Rock from Hwy 276 and back
Accum ascent: 500 ft total gradual.
NOTE: STORM DAMAGED TRAIL: Hazards may include: washed out bridges, landslides, eroded areas, muddy slippery footing, and downed clusters of trees.
Pace: 1.5mph – because I’m an ol’ Codger.
DIFFICULTY: Moderate: very rocky & dirt narrow trail. Leaf covered. Rock-hop creek xings. There may be unexpected challenges and obstacles. See description below.
We will take a short lunch at ‘Picnic Rock’ (halfway point).
Drive time: 20 min 1-way
Apprx return time: 2 pm
Carpool contributions appreciated. $1.00 suggested
We suggest masks and open windows while carpooling. Only you know your own health status so judge accordingly if an event may endanger your health or the health of others.
Weather Check: Brevard, NC
WAITLISTED PEOPLE WILL BE ADDED AS DRIVERS SIGN ON.
I currently have 1 driver(s)
Please bring an extra pair of shoes to avoid bringing your muddy shoes into the driver's car at the end of the hike.
Incessant prattlers will be assumed to be having an affair. Obstreperous raucous yawping is discouraged.
This event is NOT for beginners or those with health or balance issues.
THIS IS A DOG-PARTICIPANT HIKE. This event is NOT for those who are uncomfortable with the antics of fun-loving dogs.
Well trained dogs (you don’t have to yell) can be 'off-leash'. 'On leash' during the lunch stop.
DESCRIPTION;
Remember - hikes led by ‘the Curmudgeon’ tend to have challenging surprises.
Geriatrics are asked to bring their own BP cuffs.
A seasonal favorite; this is a very pleasant hike that weaves in and out of the various coves that lie along the southeast face of the mountain ridge that rise up above Pink Beds. 6 moderate rock-hop creek Xings; rocky trail. I suggest extra socks & towels for any surprises on the creek Xings.
All hikes are at your own risk. You are responsible for your OWN safety and adequate equipment.
