Hike for Beer, VA

Join happy hikers for a lovely loop hike around the BeaverDam Reservoir starting at the brand new Reservoir Park. Beautiful views of the water and varied woodland areas. This is an EIGHT MILE loop hike around one of Northern Virginia's largest bodies of water. The loop is mainly flat with a tiny hill or two. I've rated the loop moderate because the distance is EIGHT miles.

After the hike we'll go to Old Ox Brewery, one of Northern Virginia's finest breweries and enjoy some incredibly amazing spectacular craft beers. This is one of my favorite breweries. While enjoying beers we'll exchange some stories, share some laughs and relax from the hike. Old Ox also offers some cornhole inside so maybe we'll play a game or two.

My rating for this hike is Difficult We will climb 1500 feet in elevation over the 5.3 mile hike or the equivalent of a 100 story building. The world trade center topped out at 110 stories. A long with the climb we will also be descending 1500 feet. The trail is rocky so I do recommend trekking poles. They will increase you balance and aid you tremendous on the down hills. If you've not used poles before and you buy a new set. REI is my go to store. you'll also need to get out and get comfortable walking with them before our hike. It takes about 45 minutes to adjust to them but they will fast become your new best friend. Poles are not required. I didn't start using them until after I turned 30 just a few years ago...
Afterwards we will head over to Bear Chase Brewing which is just a half mile from the trail head and one of my favorite places to hang out.
Parking is limited at the trail head but across the street at the top of the hill a large overflow lot is available.

Just past the visitor center turn right into the parking area. The trail head is at the very end of the parking lot.

Enjoy the serene surroundings, captivating vistas, and relaxing atmosphere. Take in the majestic views of the Potomac River and the rugged beauty of Great Falls.

We'll be hike is a total of 6 miles, rated easy with stops at the Great Falls overlooks.
