10am-1pm
Mt. Tabor, SE Portland, OR
- Named after an Israeli peak of the same name, Portland’s Mount Tabor became a city park in 1909. Parks superintendent Emanuel Tillman Mische consulted with famous landscape architect John C. Olmsted to create a design for the site, which included several walking trails, gently curving roads, long flights of stairs, and plenty of space to showcase native plants.
- A few years later, construction workers found volcanic cinders in the park, which were used to pave the park’s pathways. That’s right... we will be walking on ancient lava from Mount Tabor itself!
- A mixture of footpaths and paved roads crisscross Mount Tabor. We will enjoy this community hike amidst many other beautiful active Portland residents running, cycling, jump roping, lunging, lounging, practicing yoga, playing guitar, picnicking and......
- We will MeetUp @ the entrance to Mt. Tabor Community Garden on Lincoln St. @ 10am where there is ample street parking.
- We will meander the various trails as we make our way to Tabor's summit for some spectacular views across SE Portland with the city skyline and West Hills in the distance.
- Our hike will be easy to moderate elevation and approximately 3 miles, no matter what trail we chose.
- Up top, amidst the cover of some fabulous huge trees, we will dance our Nia before chatting and hiking back down to our meeting spot on Lincoln St.
- Nia Somatic movement is gentle, fun, inclusive, healing, move-at-YOUR-own-pace & in YOUR body's way. It is about what it FEELS like, not so much what it looks like, y'all.
- We use headphones (provided), handsfree mic, radio transmitter & iPod technology!
- Please wear clothing you like to move in and hooded rain gear (when needed) to protect our headphones.
- Be sure to have a healthy breakfast that includes protein & pack a snack perhaps.
- Bring your water bottle.
- If your intention to attend changes, pretty please change your RSVP status on MeetUp to "Not Going" as soon as your plans change. I have limited sets of headphones and would love to avoid "no-shows" from excluding others who wish to join. THX.
- Please avoid asking others on a date during this event. My intention is to foster safe space to meet new people, hike, dance and FEEL the music. Please respect your fellow attendees. I remove members who aim to "pick-up". Please let me know if you are ever made uncomfortable by another during an event.
We would LOVE to have you join us …
