4.5 mile Fitness Hike at JMF

Meet behind the JMF Welcome Center at the picnic tables. The hike will start 5 minutes after the listed start time. This is a 4.5-mile strenuous pace hike that recurs every Sunday. This is a workout hike with lots of hills and no stops along the way. If you are looking for something to go from good shape to better shape then this is the hike for you. It's not trail running but it includes 2000 feet of elevation change over 90 minutes so it is a tough workout even if you are in decent shape. We will regroup about a half-mile in. Anyone who falls behind by that point will have the choice to turn around or continue on their own. I will stick with anyone who makes it to the Purple Heart trail connector at the group pace. There are 3 points along the trail where you can take a shortcut back to the Welcome Center if you wish. We encourage people who are looking for a good way to improve their fitness to try this hike and take the shortcuts as needed. Over time you will build up the endurance needed to finish the hike. It's great to see people improve over time until they can complete this hike with the group. For anyone interested in a much slower paced hike, a --separate-- event before this event.
