There's something for everyone in this moderate hike in the higher elevations of the Tam watershed. We start out with the quiet solitude and dense canopies of the Benstein, Music Stand and High Marsh trails, visit Marin's best-known waterfall in the middle of the hike, and finish with sweeping views along the Coastal, Matt Davis and Old Mine trails.

From our meeting point at Rock Spring, we'll take the Simmons and Benstein trails to Laurel Dell Fire Road, then pick up the unmarked Music Stand Trail, which holds an unlikely surprise about halfway down its short length. Next, we climb the High Marsh Trail around to Cataract Falls, which should be flowing nicely after all the recent rain, and then head out to the Coastal and Matt Davis trails for long-range views of the Pacific. After a quick break at Pantoll Campground, we'll check out more views, this time of Marin and the bay, as we make our way back up to Rock Spring along the Old Mine Trail.

**Hike stats:** 8.5 miles at our standard faster-than-most-groups pace, with 1,400 vertical feet of moderate climbing, about a third of which is in the final mile. There are restrooms at the trailhead, near Cataract Falls and at Pantoll, and there's a water source at Pantoll as well.
