A Walk Along the Morris Canal Extension: From Newark to Jersey City

Distance: Approximately 8-9 miles (plus an optional 3–4 miles walk to Berry Lane Park if time permits before the 1:30 PM presentation at Liberty State Park).

Join us for a unique urban hike tracing the historic route of the Morris Canal Extension from Newark to Jersey City! Our journey primarily follows Routes 1 and 9 as we walk across the Passaic and Hackensack Rivers. We'll also explore Route 440 before taking the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail back to Liberty State Park to attend the 1:30 PM program, “Tales from the Morris Canal.”

Morris Canal Greenway event details are as follows:
Tales from the Morris Canal. The program includes a 60-minute presentation and discussion, followed by a weather-permitting walking tour to the Morris Canal Big Basin.

End: Liberty State Park
