What we’re about
Hikers of the Côte d’Azur is an informal hobby group of nature lovers and our hikes are free of charge. The group is not affiliated to an official or registered sports association.
In becoming a member, please note that you are not covered by any collective insurance policy and that the organizers cannot be held responsible in the event of accidents. You come entirely at your own risk and no minor will be accepted if not accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Please make sure you are covered by a personal insurance policy.
The event organizers of Hikers of the Côte d’Azur are organising events in their leisure time. They are not professional tour guides or walk leaders. So we trust you will be kind, cooperative and helpful on each hike you join, so that everybody can spend a pleasant time together.
We have a few common-sense rules:
· When you register for a hike, please get in touch with the event organizer and give them your mobile phone number.
· If you find you need to cancel, please make sure you unregister as soon as possible to free your place for someone else. Let the event organizer know, as well as anyone you are car sharing with.
· On the day of the hike, please be on time at the starting point. If you think you will be late, please let the event organizer know. The group will not wait more than 15 minutes after the published start time.
· Always make sure you stay with the group. In no case should a single hiker decide to opt for a different path or route or alter the itinerary without the agreement of the event organiser.
On every hike, make sure you have:
· hiking or trail shoes with a good grip on the sole
· enough food and water
· warm clothes even in summer (gloves and hat in winter and/or in the mountain)
· a waterproof windbreaker (weather can change quickly and unexpectedly in the mountains)
· a mobile phone (fully charged) and please make sure you have saved the number of the event organiser
· a basic first aid kit (about 10€ at a pharmacy or sports store)
Other useful equipment :
· sunglasses, sun cream, hat or cap
· a spare phone battery
· a survival blanket (very small and around 3 euros)
· a head lamp or flash light
· a whistle
In case of emergency: dial 112 (European emergency number).
SOS in the mountain: blow 2 short whistle signals every 10 to 15 seconds.
