This week, in our beautiful section of Brisbane Forest Park, we will make our way to the Bunyaville State Forest where we will circumnavigate the full perimeter, commencing and finishing at the Jinker Track. The track is approximately 13.5kms of fairly hilly terrain, with a number of short sharp hills. Total maximum elevation of 210m.

As usual, we will have lunch after the hike...if time permits.

What to bring: You should bring plenty of water (2-3ltrs), some snacks, a packed lunch (incase we dont make a cafe) and the usual...first aid kit, insect repellent, sunscreen, hat etc.

Holman's Break Hike

Distance- 14kms

Duration 4-5 hours

Grade - Mod/Hard- Many very steep hills

Cost- $2.00 gold coin donation

This is a moderate/hard walk around a large section of the bushland in which Enoggera Reservoir sits.

We'll start out from the bottom carpark at Walkabout Creek, take the small track to the far right that follows Mt Nebo road where there is a very steep hill to start us off.
We'll follow this track for about 2 km, (turn around every now & again to catch glimpses of The Brisbane City skyline). The track will split - but we will stay on the track that is to the right, still following Mt Nebo road, which will also be on our right (you can't really see the road) for about another 1km.
We will come to a bit of a clearing under the power lines - where we will hopefully know to turn around and enjoy the view out over The Gap!
There'll be great views of Mt Cootha on our left and the mountain range in the distance (that I don't know the name of!).
There will be quite a steep descent down to a beautiful creek - we will take some time to enjoy a rest here as there is a VERY steep ascent awaiting us ! It's probably about a 600 metre climb, which will bring us out under another power tower. If we look out over to the next tower - we'll see that that is where we are heading!

We'll continue along the trail for about another 1 km where we will come to a T junction, stay left for another couple hundred metres to another junction - then go left again onto Fire Break 69. Remember!! To look over to your left when you reach the power tower and see how far you have come!
We'll then continue down Fire Break 69 until we reach another junction - this is McDonalds Loop.
We will then follow McDonalds Loop down to the end where it hooks up to the Enoggera Reservoir loop -and take the trail back along the reservoir to Walkabout Creek.

Once we are done sweating our backsides off, we may then plunge into Enogerra Reservior's gorgeous fresh waters to cool off... And following that, we'll ENJOY A WONDERFUL LUNCH/COFFEE at The Lodge Cafe in The Gap.

• What to bring

2-3 litres water, morning tea/snacks, sunscreen. Insect repellent (Natural is always more effective from personal experiance), a hat and a comfortable hiking pack, swimming gear

Where- We'll meet at Walkabout Creek Information Centre at 8:30.
We will commence our hike on the Auracaria Track initially, then proceed on to the firetrails that make up the Enogerra Reservoir Track.
After walking along Link Rd for some time, we will then branch off the Reservoir Track onto McDonald's Loop, then onto Job 69 Break..before we end up on Sth Boundary Rd, which we will follow until we arrive back at the Reservior Wall.
We will finish back up at Walkabout Creek.

This is a great walk through mostly canopied forest that skirts around Enoggera Reservior.
There are some very steep hills that may be a challenge if you are not very fit, but most of the walk is relatively moderate.
Glimpses of the reservoir, lots of beautiful trees, the odd encounter with wildlife make for a very enjoyable few hours.
We will end the hike with coffee and lunch at the lovely Walton's Pantry in The Gap or at The Lodge Cafe, for those that want to stay on and socialize alittle.
There is also the option to have a post-hike swim in the reservoir too.

TORRES DEL PAINE

Have you ever felt completely insignificant in comparison to nature? Well, get ready to feel precisely that way among the turquoise waters, glaciers and towering granite horns of the Torres del Paine National Park. The jaw-dropping landscapes of this eighth wonder of the world are humbling indeed.

Immerse yourself in this vast national park; a backpack and comfortable shoes are all you require for a trekking adventure, the best possible way to explore this UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.

Take full advantage of the 17 hours of daylight in summer and don’t miss out on sunrise, when the horns of the Torres del Paine massif glow purple and red. Sail on Lake Grey to admire the eponymous glacier, or paddle a kayak through its colossal blue and white icebergs.

You’ll enjoy terrific wildlife-watching in Torres del Paine. See majestic condors wheeling in the pristine skies overhead. Look out for foxes, huemul or Andean deer and guanacos along the way, and if you lie in wait patiently, you might be lucky enough to spot the reclusive puma.

××The 'O' Circuit××

This 7-9 day route adds a northern section on to the park's famous W Trek. It's undoubtedly a tougher trail, marked by the extra distance and absence of refugios on the northern side, but the views of the icecap as you round the rugged John Gardner Pass are one of the highlights of the national park, and well worth the extra kilometres.

Also known as the Full Circuit, the O Circuit runs right around the Paine range. Experienced hikers will enjoy the challenge of some of the tougher passes, and for beginners, this is definitely a hike to aspire to.

Complete a full circuit of the Paine range, visiting all the highlights as well as some hidden gems

•Escape the crowds on the W Trek by continuing into the quieter northern areas of the park

•Take on the challenging John Gardner pass to be rewarded by breathtaking views of the icecap stretching into the distance

•Camp with a view at some of the national park's secluded campsites that hug the mountain range

××'O' Circuit- The Route××

Starting at Refugio Torre or Paine Grande, you'll hike the full trek anticlockwise, visiting the three valleys of the W Trek as well as the quieter trails across the north. Stunning views and a sense of achievement await all who embark on this trail, and there is no shortage of highlights. The main areas to visit are:
Dickson Lake, a beautiful tranquil campsite with views of the Dickson Glacier
The hanging Perros Glacier which sits above the remote Perros campsite, one of your rest stops
The John Gardner Pass, during the most challenging day of hiking, where you will climb to 1200m for spectacular views of the icecap
Descend to Glacier Grey and follow the glacier as it meets Lake Grey
Hike through French Valley, with the vast hanging Glacier Frances dominates the landscape on your left as you climb
You will visit the magnificent mile-high granite towers that give Torres del Paine its name, either at the start or end of your trek. Climbing to this viewpoint is one of the more challenging days of the trek, with an 800m climb and 7-9 hours of hiking.

××Lago Grey (Grey Glacier)××

The Grey Glacier is one of Torres del Paine's most spectacular glaciers, and tumbles into the serene Lago Grey. The Grey Glacier is part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, and at its peak is 30 metres high, and around six kilometres wide.

××Kayaking××

Paddle amongst the lake's sculpted icebergs, so close you can reach out and touch them.
