Meeting Point where we stand and wait for everyone:
7J65+3JV Ijamsville, Maryland
Copy the above GPS coordinates into Google map to find the meeting point.
I will add a pic of the meeting point in the photo section.
This will be a slow-paced hike.
Please arrive 15 minutes early for this hike to allow time to get familiar with parking. We will meet at the East View Parking Lot.
After the hike, we can check out the famous Sugarloaf Mountain Winery.
The vineyard may possibly have a food truck on site on weekends. They also sell some packaged cheeses and charcuterie. You are welcome to bring your own picnic lunch, but no alcohol other than their wine is permitted on the property. It seems the lawn chairs/tables fill up quickly, so they suggest bringing a blanket or lawn chair to sit.
Interesting facts:
Sugarloaf is known as a monadnock, a mountain that remains after the erosion of the surrounding land. Here, that process took approximately 14 million years. At an elevation of 1282 feet, Sugarloaf stands more than 800 feet above the farmland below.
The mountain and trails are maintained by Stronghold, Inc. a non-profit setup by Louise and Gordon Strong in 1946 to preserve the mountain so that it could be enjoyed by everyone. The mountain has many wonderful hiking trails that can be combined to create many different loops.
