Base Camp Te Anau - (7 nights)

Details

Welcome to "Base Te Anau 2025" from the week of the 22nd February to the 1st March Saturday to Saturday. This will give us 7 nights and 8 days to explore the Southland region.
The plan is to hike the best hiking trails the Southland region has to offer within about a 2h drive. We will base ourselves at Lakefront Backpackers. With the two hired 12 Seater vans we then go on daily excursions.

I hope we can all get away for a well deserved Holliday! There will be a mixture of different hikes and other excursions planned with lots of options. Most of the hikes will be at about a medium to hard level for our hiking group. Most of them range from 7-25km. They wouldn't all be considered really hard but do add up when you're doing them back to back for a week. Good fitness is required.

Note: Preference is given to regular HA hikers. Being first on the waiting list the not mean necessarily that you make it on to the going list.

Hikes Planned

  • Gertrude Saddle 8.2km (Grade 3.0)
  • Lake Marion 6.1km (Grade 3.0)
  • Falls Creek 6.6 (Grade 3.5)
  • The Divide to Lake Mackenzie day hike 22.8km (Grade 3.0)
  • The Divide to Lake Wilson over night camping 39.5km (Grade 4.0)
  • Mavora Lakes tracks 17.9km (Grade 2.5) option 1
  • Mavora Lakes tracks 13km (Grade 2.0) option 2
