I assume most of you (except maybe some new members) know me, and remember that I head up the group and used to lead a lot of our hikes, but haven't done so for the past year or so because of my knees. BUT I have had them both replaced within the past 7 months and have been rehabbing.

While I still have a long ways to go, I'm at the point in my recovery where I'm ready to start leading some SHORT, SLOW, EASY ("SSE") hikes. I am hopeful that we have some members who are at a similar point in recovery from a procedure, an illness, or perhaps are just no longer in peak condition. If that's you, or you just want to do an easier hike, I hope you'll join me!

Yates Mill is a fully restored, circa 1756 gristmill located near downtown Raleigh. It is the centerpiece of Historic Yates Mill County Park. The park offers a few connected scenic trails.

***What we'll do***

* **Trails**: Mill Pond Trail, Creekside Trail
* **Distance**: about 2.7 miles. There is an opt-out point to shorten the distance.
* **Pace**: 2.3-2.5 mph. We may make a brief stop or two to stretch, rest or simply watch and listen to the forest.
* **Difficulty**: easy. The trail surface is mostly natural. We won't be doing the hills.
* **Facilities**: Restrooms are available at the visitor center.

* **Apres hike:** if there is interest, we can go to the Howling Cow for the **Triangle's best ice cream** (according to me) afterwards. It's almost directly across the street.

**You should expect roots, rocks and poor/uneven/soft footing in certain sections. In order to reduce the chance of a fall, a hiking pole or poles is recommended.**

***What to bring***
Plenty of WATER, comfortable hiking shoes or boots, water, walking sticks if you like, clothing appropriate for the weather, sunscreen, and perhaps a snack. In bug season we also recommend a good mosquito and tick repellent.

***Important to know***
While the group may spread out on the trail, as a courtesy, please let the organizers know if you do not intend to complete the hike with the group leaders. While we are not liable for you on the trail, we do want to keep track of our numbers if possible.

***Dogs***: NO DOGS ALLOWED HERE.

***Weather policy***
If the weather forecast is for rainy or otherwise nasty weather, we'll reschedule. If it's questionable, check back here an hour or two before the event.
