Hike & Beach BBQ - Long Bay Regional Park

Details

Lets enjoy a beautiful Sunday at Long Bay Reserve and get a big dose of sun, sand and sea.

We will complete the Okura River walk that has spectacular clifftop views of the Hauraki Gulf. It will take around 3 to 4 hours return, 9Km with plenty of time for photos.

Depending on how the tide is on the day we will walk the track one way and the coast/shoreline on the return to experience the marine reserve and hopefully see endangered shorebirds. The return along the coastline has slippery rocks and we need to be aware of rock falls.

Coastal Track info from Auckland Council:
The track starts just north of the northern-most car parks, leading off the service road. The track leads you through the wetland before heading up through coastal bush. Continue along the track towards Granny’s Bay, taking in the panoramic views of the Hauraki Gulf from the cliff tops on the way. Follow the track past Pōhutukawa Bay to the Okura River. Nude bathers have been known to use Pōhutukawa Bay however it is not a designated nudist beach. You can return along the coastline at low tide but be aware of rock falls and slippery rock

After the hike we will spend some time on the beach to relax and swim. I will bring along my portable webber BBQ. Please bring along something for the BBQ to share.

Bring along:
Drinking water
Rain jacket
Hat
Sunnies
Sarong or towel
Lunch and snacks for BBQ
Togs and towel if swimming

No cost for meetup.

Meet at the end of Beach Rd at Long Bay Regional Park at 9am. Text or call me on 0272006265 if you cannot find us.
