Acadia National Park in Maine on Mt Desert Island is "Where the mountains meet the sea." There are over 200 miles of trails that go up and around 20 different mountains. There are many other things to do besides hike: bike, take day cruises, visit nearby islands, visit museums and other neat places. No so in the winter. Not sure what's available this time of year. I've been going up almost annually for over 35 years, so I've been just about everywhere on the island at one time or other. One of the best places in the world for hiking.

HIKING
We will hike 3-6 hours each day. We will hike at a brisk pace. Because of the weather will may not be able to hike some mountains. However the 48 miles of carriage trails are always hike-able or ski-able. The park loop road is also closed for traffic, but open for hikers. You need to watch for construction traffic.

TERRAIN
Great trails with spectacular views of the ocean, islands, and other mountains. The 40+ miles of the carriage trails are always doable. Hilly, but level. Many mountains: some small, some large, some difficult, some easy. Some trails very rocky. We will stay on the less rocky, less tree rooted trails.

This time of year? Acadia is great as long as it's not hot.
It will be cold, but not super cold. The upside is that the place will not be crowded. You can park anywhere. The trails will be incredibly beautiful.
The downside is that many restaurants and stores will not be open. The Park Rangers will not yet be giving tours. The LL Bean free buses will probably not be running. I loved it last year.
