Hiking Mates of the Capital Region

**Meet at Bennett Hill trailhead.10am.Hike starts 1015am

** Hunting season, wear bright colored outer layer and/or hat, (orange preferred)

We will hike a two mile loop along the green, red, and yellow trails of the preserve, which overlooks Clarksville. We will start at an elevation of 740' and climb to 1140'. Views along the way include the surrounding countryside, the Helderbergs, and a narrow outlook at the top of the hill toward the city of Albany. Although this will be a relatively short hike of approx. 2hrs, it includes a fairly steady uphill grade and a few short steep sections on the way up. *It is not a level walk in the park.*

You should be doing regular aerobic exercise to participate. Dress for weather with non cotton clothes, and wear hiking boots. Also bring microspikes? water and snacks. No dogs please. Meet at the Bennett Hill Trailhead on Bennett Hill Rd, New Scotland . We can go to lunch after the hike for those interested. The map depiction shown here is accurate. VISCHER FERRY NATURE PRESERVE -MEET AT 630pm /HIKE Starts 645pm. .Trailhead located on Riverview Rd , Clifton Park at Van Vranken Rd. Intersection. **Carpool if possible as parking is limited.**

OK for beginners if you do not mind hiking after dark and are capable of walking 3-4 miles with minimal elevation gain.

We will be doing Tremper Mountain fire tower in the Catskills.

This is 7+ miles with 1860 feet of elevation gain & is rated as moderately challenging (not ideal for beginners). There will be some steep, rocky sections so sturdy hiking boots will be necessary. Bring microspikes in case of ice. There is a fire tower with wonderful views from the top.
Be sure to hydrate well before & during this hike. Weather depending, we will hang out at the fire tower for a bit to rest & have a snack.
Dogs are allowed on my hikes but they must be leashed (no exceptions), under your control while on the trail and while around hikers (ours & others).
If anyone would like to carpool we can meet @ Colonie Center (the parking lot to the right of Whole Foods) at 7:30am.

We will hike a 4-5 mile loop along the Fred Schroeder and Long Path trails from the Carrick Rd trailhead at the north end of the park. We will stop at both hang glider and high point lookouts to check out the panaramic views. Plan to be out in the woods 2-3 hours. There are a few short hills and areas of uneven terrain but overall not a lot of elevation change. Although this is a beginner hike you should be doing regular aerobic exercise to participate. Dress for the weather and wear hiking boots.
