Scary Hike Starved Rock

Celebrate All Hallows Eve with a scary hike !

With Covid, Masks are all the rage, so lets go crazy on this day and everyone wear your scary mask while we hike. :-)

Meetup at Illinois Canyon lot, which is the second left turn if you take 71 south exit thru Ottawa, once you enter the park. You will travel near the river and the road will curve to the left, look for the second left driveway entrance marked Illinois canyon parking.

We will park at that lot then walk across the road and start on the lower path.

Dogs and kid-friendly

Let's hike the lower paths visiting the council bluff overlook and some nice waterfalls.

This will be an easy hike in the forest, spending extra time to see all the exposed sandstone rock now that the leaves have dropped. Note the lower paths tend to be soft and muddy. Recommend hiking boots.!!

Hike distance will be about 5-6 miles roundtrip. Anyone can do this hike.

The best way here is to exit off Route 80 West, Take 71 West thru Ottawa following all signs. You cross River and then turn right on 71 West, following River on your right side. Right after you pass the Starved Rock Park sign, there is a left turn into the Illinois Canyon parking lot. Park there.

** going thru town, you will cross over the Illinois River after passing Downtown Ottawa., then turn right and follow rt 71 along the river. Once you enter Starved Rock sign on right of road, approx 1/2 mile there will be a quick left turn into Illinois Canyon parking lot.
