Name: “Feeding the People” social science field trip at the Yolo Basin

Let’s get together at the Yolo Basin Foundation and learn about how feeding the people of the local land has transformed over time. This is a K-12th grade event.

The group will be split up into 4 sub groups that will rotate around 4 stations: changing swampland to farmland, irrigation: moving water to farm, seeds and grains of the Yolo Basin and transportation: food on the move.

There will be a short (20-30 mins) break for lunch time on site so please bring a bag lunch and plan to pack everything out as the site is run by volunteers, including garbage removal.

The field trip cost is $340 for the group. We will split it between the number of kids who RSVP (there are usually at least 15-20). There is a minimum of 15 and a max of 40 children allowed. Please RSVP with the number of participants so we can keep track of how many we have and split the cost as we get closer.

There will be an opportunity to go into the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area by car after we eat lunch for those who want to continue to that portion of the field trip. It does make it a longer field trip. If we decide not to go to the bypass area as a group, I can let the education director know and the time would decrease by an hour or so.

Please dress for the weather as it is a rain or shine event and is exclusively outdoors.
