You are the teenage summer staff of Dizzy Meg’s Magical Animal Petty Zoo. A little place of just ten acres, the zoo is here to educate and inform its visitors about the wonders of magical animals. You’re here as cheap labour and for the work experience you keep getting told that sixteen to eighteen year olds should be getting. The zoo’s owner, Dizzy Meg, is off on their summer holiday and the sub-manager who’s meant to be in charge has left you with the keys and gone for the day with their mates to the beach.

Table 2: Burn the Goat
It is the week before the First of Advent and in a few days’ time, a 13-metre tall straw goat will be erected in the town centre. You are a plucky gang of arsonists with one goal in mind: burn it to the ground. You have two important goals:

1. Do not get caught - the fine will be hefty, the jail time will be long, and the wrath of the locals will be unending
2. Make it look good - make it original, make it funny, make it insane, so as to inspire more people to burn it in more creative ways next year.

Table 3: Imperial Palace Murder Mystery
The imperial dynasty is in peril. Just before the emperor could launch a definitive assault on the Mongol homelands he abruptly took ill and died. Many have claimed it was an assassination. His heirs have begun circling the throne like vultures, begging for the favors of his wife and concubines to put them on the throne. To make matters worse, the peasants are close to open rebellion. In the North, the Mongols threaten from across the wall. And thousands of missionaries have begun plying trade along with their new faith throughout the Empire. For China to survive, someone strong must take the helm of the imperial dynasty and forge a decisive path forward.

Table 4: The Witch is Dead
Once upon a time, there was a kind and wise and beautiful witch who lived in the forest with her familiars, and her life was peaceful and happy until a FUCKING WITCH-HUNTER broke into her cottage and dragged her out and FUCKING MURDERED HER and now she’s DEAD. But if you get revenge and kill him and bring his EYES to her corpse within a week, she’ll come back to life. Even if it doesn’t work, at least he’s dead.

You can drop in and play at any One-Shot Saturday – you do not need to have played in a previous session or commit to playing again. Whether you've played an RPG before or not, you're welcome to join us.

Please arrive on time as once the games begin it becomes difficult to properly introduce latecomers.

WHAT IS A TABLETOP RPG?

It's a game in which you never know where the next stop will be, because it’s all down to the decisions you and your fellow players make. Usually one person is the Game Master (or "GM"). Everyone else will be players, taking the role of the characters in the game. The players get to say what their characters say, think, and do. The GM describes everything else in the world.

Then... we play to find out what happens. The game is a conversation: I say something, then you reply, maybe someone else chimes in. We talk about what's happening to the characters we imagine and the world around them. We also talk about the rules, which help us decide what happens next if the next step is in doubt. The rules differ from game to game: some use dice to shape the story, others use cards or something else. It's always a conversation, though.
