A walk (harder) Pendle hill.
Sawley Junction to Clitheroe
Distance: 11.25 miles
Ascent: 2000 feet
Leader: Ronnie Wade
Today's walk starts at the bus stop on the A59 for those going into Sawley. The pavement is on the opposite side of the road so it may be safer to use this on the walk down to Smithies Bridge. Here we leave the A59 and take paths to Downham. At Downham there are public toilets. The route then takes us across to Angram Green and from here a steep path following the line of Burst Clough is followed onto Pendle Moor, The edge of Pendle Hill is now followed terminating at the summit of Pendle Hill.
The path down Ogden Clough is initially used on the descent until The Ribble Valley Jubilee Trail is picked up. This is left at Apronfull Hill where we descend to Howcroft Barn. Paths are now taken leading us past Mearley Hall and High Moor to finish in Clitheroe centre by the railway station.
B Walk (moderate) - under Pendle hill.

**C Walk (Easier) - The Ribble way.
Sawley Junction to Clitheroe
We get off the coach with the A party on the busy A59, which we have to cross to start our walk to Sawley, passing the remains of a Cistercian Abbey. At Sawley Bridge, we join the Ribble Way which we follow all the way to Clitheroe, sometimes on one side of the river and then on the other. We may have time to follow the Sculpture Trail for a while and/or visit Clitheroe Castle. The walk is easy going with minimal climbing and 7 miles long.
Leader: Rita Schofield.
